Since 2017 Greenland has fascinated me. Its unrivaled immense landscapes with breathtaking views are now increasingly in focus for international development. Climate and political issues have put Greenland at the centre of world attention. The small population of Greenland requires assistance in developing sustainable tourist infrastructure with the aim of becoming carbon neutral and zero polluting. An objective that will ultimately help them on their path to economic sustainability.
The first modern architectural project in Ilulissat is under construction, the Icefjord Centre, and is setting an important benchmark that confirms my belief in opportunity for modern quality architecture. Hence my approach in designing sustainable high end prefabricated lodges.

This website presents our approach to a concept project in respect of the Greenland Sustainable Government Policy with integration of Inuit cultural elements.

The following guidelines have been set forth:
• Modularity based on shipping container dimensions.
• Adapted to harsh weather conditions.
• Durability of materials.
• Reduction of assembly.
• Designing with a concept respecting and integrating the local Inuit culture.
• Appealing cozy interiors (“ Hygge” ).
• Carbon neutral.

In the first phase we are presenting the core of the project, the prefabricated Lodges. The concept is established with the minimum program of 52 lodges as well as reception, restaurant, bar & lounge and a Spa facility. The further analysis of the Lodge concept and prototype program will be fine-tuned as the development proceeds.
Common areas can be organized in a similar way to the Ilimanaq project, for example hosted in a refurbished, heritage building or custom designed structure.

Our aim is to refrain from installing solar panels on the roof spaces, but instead considered a smaller, adjacent solar farm that would supply the needs of the development, preserving the esthetics.

Sewage and grey water treatment would equally be centralized. All lodges are connected by wood passages under which media services could be hidden. These circulations should be dimensioned so as to allow electrical carts or snowmobile.

The entrance elevation is kept opaque to guarantee the maximum privacy. We would however use this surface to incorporate Inuit cultural elements: a 3D artwork of a symbolized snow owl or based on INUIT culture & tradition Tupilaq.

The project has gained great interest from one of the world’s best luxury hotel operators. We are currently discussing the potential locations with the local authorities. Upon finalizing locations we would like to confirm key partnership and financing. The intention is to develop one prototype lodge in Poland and ship it in containers for installation in Greenland.
We are seeking initial partners for the finance of the prototype and to take part in this fascinating project. This development offers partners the exciting opportunity to participate within a sustainable framework for the hospitality sector in Greenland, the land of miraculous nature.

Another opportunity opens after the completion of the prototype lodge to become investors of the complete project which will encompass ca 100 lodges in a breathtaking location in the western part of Greenland, this will be a refuge for many hotel guests who seek tranquility and isolation in the beauty of nature.

We have prepared an extensive brochure on the challenges and possibilities of developing in Greenland. We are currently exploring assistance from several government administrations and EU funding programs (seeking support from governmental and EU institutions).
